New Jersey is a true “No Fault” state.  It  is no longer necessary to plead specific grounds of fault to end a marriage. Today, you simply need to prove that you have irreconcilable differences with your spouse and that there is no chance of  reconciliation.  It is therefore easy to end the marriage. What is hard is dividing the life that you have made with your spouse. It is therefore especially prudent to utilize the services of a good divorce attorney when seeking a divorce.

The basic issues to  be addressed are generally:

  • Child Custody and visitation
  • Child Support
  • Spousal Support
  • Division of Marital Property
  • Allocation of Marital Debt

Some more complicated fact patterns will present the parties with more unique challenges such as the desire of a physically abused spouse to be monetarily compensated for his or her injuries. The unique circumstance aside, the painful and difficult part of ending a marriage is reaching an agreement as to the emotional issues of life.  Where do the children live, and how do you navigate visitation?  How do you learn to live apart independently of each other?  How do we divide significant debt when one party has little income and cannot sustain the debt or when both parties will have difficulty paying the debt?

Our staff will meet with you and during the initial consultation, you will be given as much time as you need to thoroughly explore the details of your situation.  Please call to schedule your initial consultation.
